You are fabulous, just as you are!

Boosting the confidence of children and giving them the tools to live a happier, kinder, more confident life!
Boosting the confidence of children and giving them the tools to live a happier, kinder, more confident life!
This book demonstrates some of the work I do with young children. There is silliness and songs, but the meaning is serious, because it’s far easier to boost a child’s self-esteem when they’re young, than repair it when they’re an adult.
In this book, there are lots of children. They all look very different. They all have people and things they love. They all have varied life experiences. Some are disabled and some are non-disabled. And they all have one amazing, incredible, joyful thing in common: they are all
fabulous, just as they are.
We all deserve to feel great about ourselves and this book is a way for all readers to see that. So, join in with me, and say it loud: I am fabulous!
“I am fabulous because I am unique
and full of fun and I make people smile.”
“I am fabulous because I make
everyone smile.”
“I am fabulous because I am defying my condition every day and me and my family are so proud.”
“I am fabulous because I have never
let my disability stop me from doing what I want to do.”
I was born with a rare disability. I loved to read but, in all of the books I read, I never saw someone like me. As an adult, I started working with children; I still didn't see anyone like me, or many of the children I looked after, in children's books, or books for adults.
I started getting ideas for books, and it was really important to me that lots of children could see themselves represented in them.
With my first two children's books, that happened. I loved it!
I have been teaching confidence and self esteem to children and young people for many years, and I decided to base a book on those workshops. And, for this one, I wanted to represent even more children. And we have!
The brilliant illustrator, Lottie Thompson, and I are both very passionate about diversity and inclusion, and she has created some gorgeous people for the book, with disabled and non-disabled children, all joining in with everything, because, as well as wanting children to see themselves represented, I want every one of them to know that they are fabulous, just as they are.
